The city has agreed in principle to lease the 22-acre site of an old landfill off River Road to a group that wants to develop a botanical garden. Botanica Inc., developers of the proposed year-round Louisville Botanical Garden & Conservatory, say the project will cost $30 million to $40 million.

Botanica, a nonprofit horticultural organization founded in 1993, wants to build The Louisville Botanical Garden & Conservatory at Frankfort Avenue and River Road. The garden would be on a 20-acre site, atop a former landfill that is near downtown Louisville and adjacent to Waterfront Park.
