Botanica has undertaken a bold vision...building a world-class
Conservatory and Botanical Garden for Greater Louisville that will
attract visitors from all over the region and serve as a learning
"hands on experience" for regional residents and visitors alike to
enjoy.
The Botanica Board of Directors has begun a comprehensive campaign
to identify private donors and make this vision a reality. Ashley
& Associates, a fund development consulting firm, with Jeanne
Curtis as Lead Consultant, has been leading the campaign planning study
efforts.
The results of the first phase of the study were reported to the
Board at the November, 2008 meeting. Because that report indicated
there is great excitement about the Conservatory and Garden project
from a significant number of potential major donors, the Board made the
decision to continue this work through May, 2009, beginning with a
concerted effort to secure our preferred site, the city-owned former
landfill located in close proximity to Waterfront Park that was shown
in our Feasibility Study to be the ideal site for the project.
A recent meeting with Mayor Abramson resulted in a positive response
with appropriate next steps being pursued. Further work is progressing
and we hope to have a final decision for a downtown site within the
next few weeks.
